My mum is my best friend- one of the most clichéd lines, but it is a fact for most girls including me. Hence, here is  a ‘very close to my heart’ kind of a post dedicated to my lovely mother-Amma as I call her.

For all the times I kicked you when I was in your womb…

For all the times you had to carry me as a baby when I couldn’t carry my own weight…

For all the times you had to run behind me with the food bowl in hand…

For all the times you had to hit the ground because the ground hurt me when I fell…

For all the times I woke you up in the middle of the night because I was hungry and wanted only Marie biscuit to eat…

For all the times you came to school with the lunch box filled with my favourite sweet-dish because I refused to eat anything else…

For all the times you were forced to play those silly games with me because I had no one to play…

For all the times you had to tell me the same old story in the same order because  all I wanted to hear was that one story …

For all the times you had to lay a wet cloth on my forehead because I caught fever and wouldn’t sleep…

For all the times you had to be awake because I stayed up all night  to revise for the exams the next day…

For all the times you had to  listen to my blabbers about college and friends when you had much more important things on mind…

For all the times I had ‘important’ work when you wanted me to help…

For all the times you had to console me  because I was depressed about some silly thing or the other…

For all the times you had to run to the shop to get the required ingredients because my taste buds wished for something that wasn’t readily available…

For all the times you had to support my decisions even when you felt they might not be completely right…

For all the times you had to defend me and my actions…

For all the times you had to laugh and cry with me…

For all the times when you stood as a pillar of support when all other supports lost their ground...

For all the times you had to read my blog posts because no one else would…

For all the times I take you for granted…

…All I want to say is ‘Thanks’ and ‘Sorry’. Thanks for being there Amma and Sorry for not being there most of the times when you actually need me. Love you ma.

PS: After reading this post, my mum will surely scold me for wasting my time on this post instead of helping her out in preparing for the forthcoming festival. After all, mothers are mothers. As I end this post, I can hear her yell from the kitchen asking for some help.

Uhhh..sorry mum.…next time maybe :)

I am not here to sell anything.  I am just here to present my views on something. Anything free grabs the attention of the readers, hence the title.

It is Independence Day today and ,yet , after 64 years of independence, we still ask if we are truly independent? Every year during this time, there is one hot topic of discussion everywhere, be it print media, electronic media, social networking sites  ,or even the blog world- are we truly free?  People have their own views , but most of them feel that we would not be truly independent till we get rid of poverty, corruption, violence, reservations, gender biases, so on and so forth.

Agreed to everything that is said above-freedom from corruption, poverty, reservations, etc etc etc. But one question, is Independence Day really meant to discuss the above said issues or is it to celebrate the fact that as a united nation we could free ourselves  from being ruled by another nation? The essence of celebrating Independence Day seems to have been lost somewhere in between thinking and bringing forth the negativities that the country is currently facing. I am not against discussing the problems; infact, I feel the more discussions we have, the more solutions we would have to solve the problem.

But, come on guys, give me a break. We discuss our problems as a country everyday of our lives irrespective of the fact that we might be contributing very little to get India into a league of its own in terms if economy, military, and other major areas.  Why not spend just one day ‘not’ discussing such issues? Is it so difficult for our politicians to stop blaming the ruling party or the opposition party for the state we are in....just for one day? Is it so difficult to spend the day with fellow beings peacefully....just for one day? Spend one day doing it, you will feel so nice and relaxed and you might want to do it everyday and gradually it will be become a habit.

Every country has its own problems just like every house in which you and  I stay. We do not discuss our problems everyday of our lives, instead, we focus on solving it. Why not use the same strategy in solving the country’s problems? I strongly feel we are on the right road. We are learning fast as a country and we will be there one day where we ought to be. Till then, we need to just put an effort to do how much ever we can to rebuild India the way we want to see it.

One last thing, I truly feel liberated, free and independent in my own country!!

Happy Independence Day to all of you. Jai Hind.

Friends..hmm..The weirdest of creatures who give you some bitter sweet memories for life.At every stage of life, we make new friends..some remain for life while some just disappear(most of the times unintentionally).Just trying to figure out what has friendship meant to me during every stage of my life till now.

Pre-school: I don’t remember very clearly but I remember that those were the times when we played the silliest of games, had the most fights which usually ended up with pulled hair, a bit of scratches and ultimately tears rolling down the cheeks and a complaint against the friend to either a teacher or a parent.

Primary school: Those were the times when we actually start categorizing our friends into close friends, best friends, friends and bestest friend.  I still remember vividly the times when we used to sit for lunch together, play games together, make those silly greeting cards for a friend’s birthday, compare marks, and generally try to impress teachers with those age old antics. Also, fight with each other and not talk to the other for days and bitch about their behaviour to other friends and warn them with subsequent consequences in case they joined the friend we might have had a fight with. Feels so silly now.

High school: This is when I think we are mature enough to understand the real value of friendship. Those were the times when we spent looking out for the well being of those who we called friends, helping them out of their so called problems, scolding them for being so thoughtless, and talking to them constantly about things that mattered and things which did not.

College: Hmmm…I think college life just defines friendship for most of us. All we wanted was  to be surrounded by friends all the time. The time we spent pulling each others’ legs, teasing each other, blaming each other for no reason, having a new crush every other day, texting each and every friend in the group even for the silliest of reasons,  gossiping about teachers, making fun of people, forcing people to confess their feelings for others, crying for them in case they got hurt, protecting them from falling into problems, being a pillar of support when one would go weak at time of crisis, laughing at jokes only we would understand, studying at the last moment for exams and calling it combined studies when all it resulted in was combined fun and no studies, sharing notes, being happy for the other when the other succeeded, being sad when the other failed…this and that..hmmm…missing those days…wish I could go back.

Love you guys. Happy Friendship’s Day to all of you…
