I love my hair long,
I sing a silly song,
I wish I could bring my bike along,
She is my first wife to whom I belong.

Everytime I look into the mirror,
I am a fan and an admirer,
Of the awesomeness that does appear,
And don't tell anyone even by error,
But, know that my wife is a big terror. :P

*The prompt by NaPoWriMo today was: "to write a poem in the voice of a member of your family. This can be a good way to try to distance yourself from your own experience, without reaching so far away from your own life that it’s hard to come up with specific, realistic details. But watch out! This type of exercise can also dredge up a lot of feelings. So if you think writing in the voice of your grandfather will be too heavy, maybe try the voice of your four-year-old niece. Four-year-old problems might be a little lighter in scope." So, I wrote a poem in voice of  my husband.

From the corner of my eye, I see two men talking,
One a little still and the other brisk walking.
I see them explaining the world to each other.
The world is me, to one a wife and to the other, a daughter.

*The prompt by NaPoWriMo today was to go to Reb Livingston’s Bibliomancy Oracle and then write a poem based on the quotation that the oracle provides.  I got the quotation "Two men are explaining the world to each other from “Two Men” by Rebecca Hazelton". My take on it is a little different from the original poem.

18 days from now, we will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary. When I sit back and think of the year gone by, one quote runs in my mind time and again. It is the content from my wedding invite which had these lines - “I cannot fix on the day, or the time, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. I was in middle of it before I knew I was in love with Abhay...Time to exchange vows and seal the love forever…”. The lines were inspired by the quote from my favourite book Pride and Prejudice - “I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.”

Ours was an arranged marriage. We got engaged on 29th June, 2012, 20 days after we first met each other. We got married on 29th November, 2012, 5 months after we got engaged and maintained a long distance relationship because Abhay was in the US and I was in India. We had met just seven times in person before we tied the knot. We talked everyday over the phone, but it never could replicate the feeling of being with each other in person. Like in the quote above, I cannot decide exactly when I fell in love with him. Was it the first time we met after we decided to get married or was it on the day of our engagement or was it the day when he surprised me when he flew down to India before the scheduled date or was it the day of our marriage? I am still not sure. But, I do not worry much about it now because I know I love him, and have loved him all along.
Being in a relationship is one thing and living together after marriage as husband and wife is a different ball game altogether which I realized only after marriage. We live in such close proximities with the other person that we begin to see them in a new light. We witness their positives, negatives, interactions, day in and out which influence our state of happiness, sadness, fears, insecurities and other unfathomable emotions. In arranged marriages, these emotions are accentuated because the only time you actually get to know your partner is when you get married to them and start living with them and start observing them carefully. I went through the jitters that marriage and a new home brings along initially. Though my new family took all the pains to make me feel comfortable, it took me sometime to get adjusted to my new home. I had created a wall of my fears that were tying me down until one day.
Back at mom’s place, I would cook only when my mom would go to our native. Dad was never particular about what I cooked and I seriously didn’t have much cooking experience if you can call it that. When I got married, my mom-in-law always cooked all of us a wonderful meal while I only helped her a wee bit. But, when my mom-in-law had to go for her Shirdi trip a month after we got married, I knew I was in knee deep trouble.
The next day after my mom-in-law left for Shirdi, I woke up and went to the kitchen so that I could prepare breakfast for the 4 of us and pack lunch for the 3 of them - my dad-in-law, sister-in-law and the husband. I thought it would be an easy task. Well, the moment I entered the kitchen, my legs were shivering. I had to cook a meal for my family in a matter of few hours and I realized I was so unprepared for it. Though my mom-in-law had made a few preparations before she left and the others insisted that they could manage by themselves, I didn’t want to disappoint myself by letting them down or so I thought.
As I stood motionless in the kitchen at 6:00 in the morning thinking what I would do and how I would finish cooking and packing their lunch in another two hours, I saw my husband enter the kitchen. I knew my husband cooked well and he loved cooking, but, I was still surprised to see him in the kitchen at 6:00 in the morning because I had never seen him wake up before 8:00 in the morning and that also would be after a lot of nudging and fidgeting around with him. He smiled like he understood my predicament. As I stood there with a knife in my hand and a half unshapely cut onion on the cutting board, he gave me a reassuring look and took the knife into his own hands and cut the onion into thin slices. I was crying, well, it might have been the onion, but I would like to believe that it was the tears of joy for having discovered our Platinum Day of Love. It might not sound like a heroic gesture on his part but for me, this was when we discovered our real love that is everlasting. It was the moment he beat his prolonged sleeping habit to be with me during my crisis time to restore the fact that he would be with me for eternity, supporting me and pulling me out of my difficulties whereas I stood there facing my wall of fears head on so that I could integrate into the family and keep them happy.
As silly as it may sound, we found our everlasting love cutting an onion in the kitchen that day. Today, when we look back, we wish that we had something eternal like platinum rings with us that day that would etch this day in our memories forever. But, all we had that day were some onion rings and tears of joy.

A quick post for today since I was busy visiting a lot of places in Oregon.
The husband was driving the car. Here, in US, we have an automatic. Back in India, we have a car with manual gear settings. My question to him was simple: "I understand we use our right leg for both accelerator(gas) and brake and the left leg for clutch in India. But, here, since we don't have a clutch, why can't we use right leg exclusively for accelerator(gas) and left leg exclusively for brake?" He didn't say a word. But, I now feel I will never get to drive again here. I wonder why. O_o

Long, long, long ago…not so long ago, I never had a valentine. Today, I have one - my brand new husband!

I was thinking of all the years gone by when I was single and lonesome on Valentine's Day ( I make myself sound like a secluded soul, don't I? Ah…old habits die hard. A shitty piece of melodramatic fur ball I am I say and God, am I not proud of the fact :p). Those were the days when looking at those "completely in love" couples was an eyesore. To top it, the hype surrounding the day used to be a reminder to us singles that another year was going to pass with only ourselves for company.

Why all this now? Well…I was thinking of "love" and the hype surrounding the whole existence of "love". I also have been a sheep in the herd when it came to "love"…maybe my definition of love was also superficial sometime ago or maybe it was not. I think the meaning of love changes at every stage in life, it evolves, it changes. I don't know if love is constant but I know change is constant.

But, yes, this year I had my valentine with me and am completely in love with him. Currently he is my definition of love and it now feels love is also constant.

I have no idea how I wanted to structure this post. So, I leave this post abruptly for I don't know what I initially intended to convey. Strange…sometimes a lot gets unsaid and you still feel a lot lighter in the head than from the time you started.

Before I end a post which I have no idea why I started, just a random thought, I think love is more of "a feeling of security". I will let you and me ponder over it for a while….

I, hereby, pompously declare that I am now entitled to the most coveted position of womanhood -  “Wife”.  I, also declare that I will use the same cliché line when I enter motherhood. Thank You.

Coming back to being a “wife”..well, it all happened just a few days back. The details, though no one’s business, might help me compose a couple of posts when I have nothing to write. Mind you…a couple of posts in my terms might be >10 posts in layman terms.

Being a girl entitles you to be melodramatic from the time you are born. Being a “wife” just accentuates the fact. I can see my husband nodding his head in affirmation when he reads this post (Will he read? That’s the biggest question haunting me currently. No worries..I have the tissues ready. Right girls?). Infact, I can see all husbands nodding their heads, affirming the fact. So, now that am entitled to being a wife and naturally more melodramatic owing to this new bit of position I have earned, I rightfully want to use the opportunity to start off my nautanki  once again, something that I stopped abruptly in my previous blog.

This is what happened previously…A quick recap!

Writing is my passion. Sic sic. Well, this is what I thought when I started my first blog “Thoughtless Ramifications…” about 2 years ago. I did update it, well, not so regularly, till May this year and then I got engaged. Ahh…my first chance to blame my then-fiancé and my now-husband on my blog. I was told that the first rule of wifedom is “Blame your husband irrespective of him being involved in the matter” and am just sticking to the rules of wifedom.  Before I forget, I also had one other blog, or rather have, by the name “BowTie :)” which is currently in the graveyard mode and might be in the same mode for another, err, couple of years until Blogger forcefully kicks it out to make some space for “the like useful junk”.

I am hoping to be third time lucky and hence this new space…”Melodrama Private Ltd.

I cribbed and cribbed more to choose an apt name for this blog of mine. I even gnawed at the husband’s brain for the same. Woah…not even a month into marriage and I seem to be getting a good hold of being a typical “wife”:p

Like all my other blogs..this is also going to be an extension of myself. A little bit me and a little bit of my perspective about things not me. Hope I can manage to keep this blog alive and actually be third time lucky !

This is what I wrote more than a month ago. But, dude, I am a girl. I change my clothes and my mind more frequently than a chameleon changes its colour. So, now I feel like continuing this blog of mine and deleting the third one. So, guys...watch out for my thoughtless ramifications here...

Thanks for the co-operation..
